The front edges of two Washers Platforms should be placed 10ft apart.
The Foul Line is the line parallel to the front of each Washers Platform. Players should pitch washers from either side of the Washers Platforms.
The players are allowed to throw the washers from anywhere behind the Foul Line, but each throw should be made from the same side of the Washers Platform.
6 washers are used in the game, 3 of one color and 3 of another color. Each team receives 3 washers of the same color.
5 points - A washer is tossed into the furthest hole.
3 points - A washer is tossed into the middle hole.
1 point - A washer is tossed into the nearest hole.
0 points - A washer bounces onto the platform. A washer comes to rest on the playing surface. A washer is on the edge of a hole, but does not fall in.
*If a washer thrown by either team knocks another washer into a hole, appropriate points should be awarded to the team who's washer landed in the hole.
*If a washer bounces onto a Washers Platform, that washer should be removed prior to the next team or player's turn.
*The "cancellation" method is used for scoring. The team with the highest amount of points from one round receives the difference between their points and their opponent's points. When equal points are earned by each team in a round, neither team will earn any points for that round.
Examples:
* Team A scores one in the 3pt hole and one in the 1pt hole for 4 total points. Team B scores one in the 5pt hole, for 5 total points. Team B would score 1pt for the round because Team A’s 4pts cancel out 4 of Team B’s 5pts.
* Team A scores one in the 3pt hole and one in the 5pt hole, for a total of 8pts. Team B gets two washers in the 1pt hole, for a total of 2pts. Team A would score 6pts for the round because Team B’s 2pts would cancel out 2 of Team A’s 8pts.
For Doubles Play:
Each partner will stand on the same side of opposite Washers Platforms.
Two different colored washers will be used: 3 washers of 1 color and 3 washers of another color. All washers will start the game on the same side of the playing field.
The "Diddle" is used to determine which player or team throws first. This means that every player throws one washer, aiming for the opposite board. Which ever player's washer lands closest to the hole worth the most points will begin the game.
A player will throw all 3 washers towards the opposite board before their teammate does the same with the other 3 washers.
Once all 6 washers are thrown, the points are added up.
Next, the opposite team will complete their turn in the same way. Whichever team scores more points during one round will throw first the following round.
The first team to reach 21pts or more will win.
For Singles Play:
Each player stands at the same platform. After one player throws their 3 washers, the next player will throw their 3 washers. Players walk to the opposite platform and scores are added up after all 6 washers have been tossed. The next round begins.
Whichever player scores more points during one round will throw first the following round.
